In 1987, Academy Leader Variations, a collaborative project bringing together animators from the United States, Poland, and China, won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Its producer/creator, David Ehrlich, teaches my animation course, and makes his students produce as one of their products their own animated variation on the academy leader, the famed 8-7-6-5-4-3-2 countdown at the beginning of a film.

Bailey added these pithy words on Aug 09 06 at 7:20 amI like how if you watch the side of the frame a random clay figure appears. But, good work!
Chris Sobieniak added these pithy words on Nov 30 06 at 5:47 pmPretty cool ditty you made (I didn’t mind seeing a few odd things popping up at the far right side, but if I had done this I probably would’ve made an effort of being consistant with what gets seen on screen during the shoot and make sure to prevent any gaffes in the process)!
Just noticed this right now, also since someone no YouTube stuck that original film a few months back….

Don’t expect the best quality here, this guy must’ve taped this off-air on a low-speed VHS cassette as it’s source material (as most things on YouTube tend to be), and even I had to ID it for him too. Should be of note several animators from Switzerland also contribute to the piece as well (noticed you skipped a country). The film was also released commercially on VHS by Expanded Entertainment in the late 80’s under the title “International Tournee of Animation Vol. 2″, this tape is already out-of-print, and very pricey if you happen to find a copy on eBay.
